Academic Skills

Woodsworth College takes pride in the excellent academic support services we offer our students. The Office of the Registrar and many of our services are open generous hours year-round. The academic advisors in the Registrar’s Office offer front-line, drop-in and scheduled counselling appointments.  They can assist you in formulating an academic and financial plan to support your success.

Our excellent Academic Writing Centre assists you with all aspects of the writing process. You can arrange a 45-minute one-on-one appointment with a writing tutor to help you polish your writing style.

Our Woodsworth/Rotman computer lab is equipped with 36 PC workstations and is staffed by lab assistants at all times. As a U of T student, you will have access to the University of Toronto Library and current versions of MS Office software and Internet Explorer. Training courses are offered in September in word processing skills required for essay and report writing, and for creating personal web pages.

Curious about your learning? Schedule an appointment with your Woodsworth College Learning Strategist, Tanya Hyland.

Photo of Tanya HylandI work side by side with you to develop academic skills, specifically time management, goal setting, critical reading and test/exam preparation – all skills you are expected to have but may have struggled to develop. Through practice and self-reflection, you will begin to build a range of strategies that support your current strengths and prior experiences. The end result will be an improvement in both your academics and life skills.

I also specialize in supporting students with diverse learning abilities or for whom symptoms of a disability can interfere with their learning and receive direct referrals from Accessibility Services.

If you’d like to learn more about your own learning, I’d love to meet you.
